MIFARE® Plus S is a lightweight version of the product, optimized to be a cost-effective drop-in replacement for MIFARE® Classic. It doesn’t support the ‘Proximity Check’ and has only limited support for the ‘Virtual Card’ scheme. More than that, it doesn’t support the Security Level 2 (see below).

MIFARE® Plus is fully functional backwards compatible with MIFARE® Classic 1 K / 4 K. Interoperability with MIFARE® Classic has been verified by the independent MIFARE® Certification Institute. Which also offers the possibility to issue cards seamlessly into existing MIFARE® Classic applications, before the infrastructure is upgraded.
