RFID stands for “Radio Frequency Identification” which is a technology using radio waves to identify, transmit and receive data from a tag/label attached to or embedded into an object. The tag/label stores information in the chip which can be read from some millimeters up to several hundred meters away.
Some large retailers like Wal-Mart and other big organizations like the Nigeria Election Commission INEC, US Department of Defense and West Africa Examination Council WAEC have driven the rapid adoption of this technology. It is estimated that, there are today now about 3 billion RFID tags already produced last year. The number is going to go up exponentially as the technology finds wide adoption in many places all over the world.
